Our Story!!

About Us

Our passion for creating bespoke holidays started when our 4 daughters reached teenage years. As anyone with daughters, let alone teenage daughters, will tell you, finding enough to keep them interested on holiday can be a real challenge. The days of kids’ clubs in the Mediterranean were becoming a thing of the past so in 2013 I (Mike) decided we should set out on an adventure and do our first ever USA Road Trip!

I realised when putting together the itinerary that there would need to be a mixture of things to do that would keep everyone happy, and so when we landed in San Francisco and had checked into the hotel, we started the trip with a visit to a 60’s style diner, I remember the look on the girls’ faces - they loved it! The following day we spent cycling the Golden Gate Bridge, out to Sausalito and back on the ferry with a well-deserved beer in hand for Sarah & I and the girls gazing at the vista of the city. Taking them across the bay to Alcatraz at night was an incredible experience, and when we left San Francisco the adventure truly began.

We picked up our hire car and in the days before Apple maps, armed with a giant map of California we set off south. Stopping off on Highway 1 for a few nights before we finally hit the 6 lane highway approaching the bright lights of Los Angeles.

Rodeo Drive was a must for the girls as was Santa Monica on Segways, whilst Sarah & I shared a tandem!  Then onto the bright lights of Vegas, enjoying the pools, shows, great food, and a flight down the strip by helicopter at night (my choice) before heading onto Yosemite and my first ever horse riding experience, another ‘must do’ request from the girls!

Finally, after 14 incredible nights we returned to San Francisco, dropped off the hire car and boarded our plane back home to the UK.

Looking out of the window I reflected on how much fun it had been to create such a magical trip, and everyone was asking what we could do next year!

So, for the following years we created amazing holidays they will always remember, travelling extensively but not exclusively across the USA, from cycling in Manhattan, to filming bears in Yellowstone, from surfing in Waikiki to sleeping in a wigwam on Route 66 we have created so many memories.

Now the girls have left home and getting married they asked us to design their honeymoons, which we did with the same excitement and enthusiasm as before. So, when the opportunity arose to create our own travel business, we did it with one thing in mind, to design those be-spoke trips to remember forever and to see the smiles on our customers faces!!

When it came to the name, I remembered that journey home in 2013, looking out and dreaming where we could go next, I always enjoyed looking out of the window and working out where we were, so much so that it became a bit of a joke, even if Sarah had the ‘official’ seat with the view, I always pinched it! That was it, there was only one name that our business could be called and I’ll Take The Window Seat was born.
