14‑Night Deep South Road Trip
This 14 night Deep South itinerary is a Food and Music extravaganza! Starting in the transport hub of Atlanta it snakes its way south, and truly is good for the Soul!
Night 1–2: Atlanta, GA
Enjoy 2 nights in Atlanta, searching out Food and Music, starting with Mary Mac’s Tea Room (classic Southern) Fox Bros. BBQ, the family-owned Texas BBQ restaurant as well as strolling Krog Street Market the vibrant hub is Inman Park
Visit the Trap Music Museum, the birthplace of Hip Hop, see the Live show at Variety Playhouse or Terminal West and drive‑by of Outkast landmarks (Little Five Points, Stankonia Studio area), 2 days here in Atlanta is a great introduction into this special road trip!
Night 3: Athens, GA
Just 60 miles outside of Atlanta, sits the town of Athens, recognised for its growing food scene and its legendary music. Dine at The Last Resort Grill, known for its South-Western inspired Southern cuisine. Enjoy the evening music scene at the 40 Watt Club, legendary home of the B52’s and REM amongst others!
Night 4–5: Charleston, SC
A half day drive takes you on to the coastal charm of Charleston. This easy walkable city combines seafood favourites with the Southern BBQ style, and offers Lowcountry cuisine alongside acclaimed restaurants such as Husk and FIG. When it comes to music, the city hosts a variety of music festivals, from Classical, Jazz & Reggae all the way through to Indie Rock, something for everyone!

Night 6: Savannah, GA
2 hours down the coast is the city of Savanah, known for its unique architecture, beautiful squares, and succulent food scene. Locally sourced Oysters, crabcakes or shrimp sit alongside crispy chicken in the city’s restaurant menus. For dessert try Leopold’s Ice Cream!
The music is diverse with many bars hosting nightly live music, featuring local and touring artists! Blues and Jazz dominate the scene, try the Plant Riverside District for the best live music!
Night 7: Montgomery, AL
Head west to the capital of Alabama, the drive will take you a few hours, but when you arrive you’ll be greeted with southern staples such as Fried Chicken, Catfish and Collard greens. Pay a visit to Chris’s Hot Dogs, a Montgomery institution for over 100 years.
The music scene is a mixture of Jazz, Country and R&B, home to the Hank Williams museum and birthplace of Nat King Cole.
Night 8: Tupelo, MS
Take the 3 hour drive towards Memphis, but overnight in Tupelo first. The birthplace of Elvis and a pilgrimage site for music history, take in some live music in Downunder or Amsterdam Deli. Food offerings are more your standard American fayre, but try Neon Pig or Connie’s Fried Chicken.
Night 9-10: Memphis, TN
With the tour end in sight there are still 2 incredible stop offs to complete this epic tour. First stop Memphis. Spend 2 nights checking out the sites. Sun Studio is a must see, take the guided tour around the famous studio to truly feel the history. Beale Street is Home of the Blues, a cornerstone of American music.
For food try out Gus’s World Famous Chicken, the many soul food outlets are too numerous to name!!
On the edge of the city you’ll find Graceland, it’s a quick 20 minute drive to visit the 13 acre site, which Elvis once owned and where he is buried. We can of course source tickets for you as part of your road trip.
Night 11: Clarksdale, MS
90 minutes south of Memphis you’ll find Clarksdale. The central hub of the Mississippi Delta blues culture. Visit the Delta Blues Museum before enjoying the evening in some of he many bars, listening to creations from Sam Cook, Muddy Waters and others, all whom originate from the town.
Enjoy some classic Mississippi food at Abe’s BBQ, right at the cross section of US 49 and 61
Nights 12-14: New Orleans, LA
Complete the driving with a half day drive south into New Orleans, drop off the car and enjoy 3 nights sightseeing.
Music is the heartbeat of New Orleans, and you’ll feel it everywhere. Wander through the French Quarter and you’ll hear jazz drifting from balconies and blues rolling out of intimate clubs. Legendary Bourbon Street buzzes with energy, while hidden gems across the city offer unforgettable live performances every night. Whether you’re a jazz devotee or simply love a good groove, the city’s musical soul is impossible to resist.
New Orleans is a living museum of French, Spanish, Creole, and African influences. Stroll through the French Quarter’s historic streets, explore elegant architecture, or dive into the city’s past with a guided walking tour. For a deeper look at American history, the National WWII Museum is one of the most acclaimed in the country and a must‑visit for travellers seeking powerful storytelling.
This city is a paradise for food lovers. From classic Cajun and Creole dishes to innovative modern cuisine, every meal feels like a celebration. Treat yourself to beignets dusted with powdered sugar, savour a hearty bowl of gumbo, or indulge in a Po’ Boy that locals swear by. The final morning transfer to the airport for your direct flight back to London from New Orleans.
