The Mighty Texan Road Trip!!

7 Night Texas Road Trip:

This 7 night road trip gives you a flavour of what Texas has to offer, if you’d like to spend some time on a ranch like we did in 2024, we can fix that up for you, it’s great fun riding out the horses and being real life cowboys and girls!

Night 1 & 2: Dallas

Your adventure begins in Dallas, a city that blends modern sophistication with deep Texas roots. Start downtown at Dealey Plaza and the Sixth Floor Museum, where the story of President John F. Kennedy’s final day is preserved with powerful detail. Wander through the Arts District, home to the Dallas Museum of Art and the striking Nasher Sculpture Centre. Dive into Texas barbecue at Pecan Lodge in Deep Ellum, where brisket is smoky, tender, and unforgettable.

As evening approaches, Dallas comes alive with neon and music. Head to Bishop Arts District for boutique shopping, craft cocktails, and dinner at Hattie’s, known for its Southern comfort dishes with a modern twist. If you want a taste of Texas nightlife, Deep Ellum’s live‑music venues deliver everything from blues to indie rock.

Night 3: Fort Worth

A short drive west brings you to Fort Worth, a city that proudly celebrates its cowboy heritage. Begin in the Fort Worth Stockyards, where longhorn cattle still parade down the street each day. The Stockyards Museum and Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame offer a glimpse into the region’s ranching history, but the real magic happens at night. Grab a steak at H3 Ranch, then head to Billy Bob’s Texas, the world’s largest honky‑tonk, where live country music and two‑stepping fill the dance floor.

No visit to Fort Worth is complete without a rodeo. The Stockyards Championship Rodeo, held weekly, showcases bull riding, barrel racing, and roping events that capture the raw energy of the American West. It’s loud, dusty, thrilling, and absolutely Texan.

Night 4 & 5: Austin

Drive 3 hours south toward Austin, the state capital and the self‑proclaimed “Live Music Capital of the World.” Austin’s vibe is creative, youthful, and proudly weird. Start at the Texas State Capitol, an impressive pink‑granite building that towers over downtown. Then wander along South Congress Avenue, where vintage shops, murals, and food trucks line the street.

Food is a central part of Austin’s identity. For breakfast, try Juan in a Million for legendary breakfast tacos. For lunch, join the queue at Franklin Barbecue, where the brisket is so good people line up for hours. In the evening, explore the city’s music scene, from blues bars on Sixth Street to intimate venues like The Continental Club.

Nature lovers will find plenty to enjoy too. Take a dip in Barton Springs Pool, a natural spring‑fed oasis, or hike the trails around Lady Bird Lake. As the sun sets, watch the famous Congress Avenue bats emerge from beneath the bridge, a uniquely Austin spectacle.

Night 6 & 7: Galveston

From Austin, the road leads southeast toward the Texas coast, where the landscape shifts from rolling hills to wide marshlands and salty breezes. Make a stop in Rockport or Port Aransas, two laid‑back coastal towns known for fishing, birdwatching, and sandy beaches. Enjoy fresh Gulf seafood at Virginia’s on the Bay, where shrimp, oysters, and redfish are served with waterfront views.

Continue along the coast to Galveston, a historic island city with Victorian architecture, beachside attractions, and a relaxed seaside charm. Begin your visit in the Strand Historic District, where restored 19th‑century buildings house boutiques, cafés, and museums. The Galveston Railroad Museum and Texas Seaport Museum offer fascinating glimpses into the island’s maritime past.

For family‑friendly fun, head to Pleasure Pier, where rides and carnival games stretch out over the Gulf of Mexico. If you prefer something quieter, stroll along Stewart Beach or explore the Galveston Island State Park, where dunes, wetlands, and coastal trails provide a peaceful escape.

Seafood is the star of Galveston’s culinary scene. Try Gaido’s, a century‑old institution serving Gulf snapper, crab cakes, and shrimp platters. For something more casual, Shrimp N Stuff offers fried seafood baskets beloved by locals.

As your Texas road trip winds down, take time to appreciate the diversity you’ve experienced. In just one state, you’ve explored world‑class museums, danced in honky‑tonks, eaten barbecue that borders on spiritual, swum in natural springs, and walked along sun‑drenched beaches. Texas is vast, but its spirit is unmistakable, warm, bold, and endlessly inviting.

Whether you’re drawn to the cowboy culture of Fort Worth, the creative pulse of Austin, the coastal calm of Galveston, or the urban energy of Dallas, this road trip captures the essence of the Lone Star State. It’s a journey of flavours, landscapes, and stories that stay with you long after the miles fade behind you

The following morning take the short 1hr journey to Houston for the direct flight back to London.
